Brink Robotics - “The A Team”

Brink Robotics - “The A Team”

With the changing world we live in, competitive robotics allows students to take part in a hands-on, problem-solving, collaborative approach to learning. In VEX IQ, students not only build robots—they design, plan, and test their ideas. Many students have been challenged during the 10 years that Brink Jr High has been involved in this program.

On May 12-14, Brink Robotics' “The A Team” traveled to Dallas for the VEX IQ Middle School Worlds Competition. After working hard all year, Boden M., Dylan T., and Caden Y. qualified to compete alongside many of the best Middle Schools in the world!

The A Team was the only school from the Moore Public Schools district to qualify to compete at the Worlds Competition. Throughout the season, this team continually excelled at the task set before them. The A Team excelled at Robot Skills. After the second competition of the season, they held the top spot in the state by increasing their score at each competition they attended. This team was also successful when they teamed up with other teams during Alliance Qualification Matches. They were Teamwork Champions at 3 of the 5 competitions they attended.

This year there were 419 teams from 51 countries at the VEX IQ Middle School Worlds competition. In the Robot Skills portion of the competition, The A Team placed 33rd out of 331 teams with a score of 428. This score is nearly double their state score of 242. For the Teamwork Challenge, the teams were separated into 5 divisions. The A Team placed 28th in their division of 81 teams with an average score of 137, also nearly double their state score of 82.

The A Team spent numerous hours outside of school preparing for this competition. They accomplished their goals and were excellent ambassadors for Brink Jr High and the Moore Public Schools.
