MHS Hosts 42nd Annual Sharon Ledgerwood Thanksgiving Dinner

Moore High School hosted the 42nd Annual Sharon Ledgerwood Memorial Senior Citizen Thanksgiving Dinner on Nov. 11, with over 100 community members in attendance. Assoc. Superintendent of Elementary & Secondary Education David Peak welcomed everyone and gave an invocation.

Big thanks to the Lion Choir, led by Lynn Herbel. As a special tribute for Veterans Day, students sang beautiful renditions of each of the six Armed Forces hymns and asked attendees to stand for their divisions’ songs. 

A very special thank you to our FCCLA sponsors and students who planned, cooked, and coordinated the entire event. It took countless hours and dedication to make this large event so successful.

- Family & Consumer Sciences: Melissa McLearen, Taryn Fowler-Kelley and Kelly McCaskill.

- Ag Teachers: Devin Grissom, Jazmin Ocampo and Alecia Symes.

Thanks also to the MHS Yearbook students and teacher Crystal Bonds for the thoughtful photo booth and print-out station, and for capturing the beautiful event for families. We also appreciate the students representing various sports, cheer, Pom, and so many other organizations who served meals, desserts, and smiles to the families.

MPS thanks everyone who worked hard in Sharon's memory and thanks the MHS staff for opening their doors and hearts to honor our senior community members.

DID YOU KNOW? This annual event began in 1981 by educator Sharon Ledgerwood. Mrs. Ledgerwood hosted the event in her Home Economics classroom at Moore High School. She taught at MHS for 26 years. After her passing in 2008, the event evolved into what we now know as the Sharon Ledgerwood Memorial Thanksgiving Dinner. This annual event celebrates Sharon’s life’s work and her dedication to serving others and her community.

 MPS Holds First Drone War Challenge

The skies above Jaguar Stadium came alive as Aviation III students from all three of our high schools competed in the inaugural event! 

Amid thrilling flights (and a few spectacular crashes), students demonstrated incredible teamwork, problem-solving, and perseverance - true hallmarks of future aviators.

Congratulations to this year’s winners:

• Aero Cup (Best Overall School): Westmoore High School

Huge Congratulations to Moore High School Senior, Isaiah Seunath!

Today, Isaiah became the first student in the Moore Public Schools Aviation Program to pass the FAA Part 107 Drone Certification Test — a major milestone for both Isaiah and our district!

Passing the FAA Part 107 exam means the holder is certified to legally operate a small drone for commercial purposes, which includes any non-recreational use. This certification is a requirement for business operations and proves the pilot has met the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) standards for knowledge of regulations, weather, airspace, and safe operations. 

Now in its third year, the MPS Aviation Program has grown to 553 students, and it takes three years of preparation to be ready for this certification. Isaiah’s accomplishment marks an exciting moment as many more students will take the Part 107 exam later this year.

A big shoutout to Moore High Aviation Teacher, Mike Russell, for his outstanding guidance and support in helping Isaiah achieve this certification.

What a happy and historic day for Moore Public Schools! Congrats, Isaiah — we can’t wait to see where you fly next!
