Earlywine Named an OKC Memorial Kids Marathon Registered School

This spring, Earlywine Elementary students and families have a unique opportunity to participate in an annual Oklahoma event that is known around the world. PE Teacher Matt Davis registered Earlywine for the Oklahoma City Memorial Kids Marathon, and his school is one of 55 named as participants for the Kids Marathon set for 9 a.m., April 25, downtown at the OKC Memorial.

On March 6, OKC Memorial Marathon Education and Kids Marathon Manager Aaliyah Torres visited Earlywine for a pep rally to boost spirits and encourage students and families to train for the Kids Marathon. She shared the story of the Run to Remember with students and staff and a few students won a t-shirt. Torres then showed the students some stretches they can do before running and training for the Kids Marathon.

Oklahoma Children's OU Health Vice President of Operations, Damian Pardue, was also on site as his organization nominated Earlywine student Ross Helms for one of two Youth Race Ambassador roles. Earlywine Principal Cindy Sandoval thanked them for visiting her school and encouraging the students.

"I registered our school in January to give our Earlywine community an event to participate in together," said Davis.

According to the OKC Memorial Kids Marathon School Group Program page, registering for this category provides students the opportunity to learn an important part of Oklahoma history and each runner receives one free admission to the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum.

The site says schools can win cash prizes for their PE departments, with a $500 prize for the school with the highest percentage of participants and another $500 for the school with the highest number of participants.

Schools can also use educational resources to teach "Why We Run" and share a training program with fun activities that focus on physical activity and healthy living.

Davis said students and family members will log 25 miles from now until race day. On race day, the students will complete their Kids Marathon by running or walking the last 1.2 miles in person.

Families will register their students as runners for $25. Adults can register and run with their child for $35. All runners must register by March 31.

All Earlywine runners will receive numbered bibs, shirts, pins, and rack cards to be distributed by their school captain before race day. Only runners with official Kids Marathon bibs will be allowed in the start line area on race day.

Davis said, "My hope is that Earlywine Elementary and our community are well represented at the 2026 Kids Marathon and for our students to understand the importance of the Run to Remember."

Anyone can register to run the full, half, or quarter OKC Memorial Marathon scheduled for Sunday, April 26, or the 5K run/walk on April 25 at www.okcmarathon.com/races.
