Westmoore Robotics Headed to State

Westmoore Robotics Headed to State

Westmoore Robotics and Engineering teacher Brittanie Brandt took four robotics teams to compete in the state-qualifying FIRST Tech Challenge tournament in Kingfisher this weekend and they returned with impressive titles.

Brandt said her students stayed focused, composed and determined throughout the entire event, even as she said it was difficult for her to do the same. All four Jaguar teams advanced to the finals, which Brandt said is a significant accomplishment for rookie teams.

Brandt said, "For those familiar with VEX Robotics, but who may be new to FTC, this tournament carried significant weight. FTC only advances six alliance matchups to finals, unlike VEX, which advances 16.

"Additionally, this tournament is the only path to a state bid in FTC, making competition especially intense."

WHS Tournament Results
2nd Hour – Tournament Champions and Control Award
3rd Hour – Innovate Award
4th Hour – Think Award
6th Hour – Connect Award

The WHS second and third-hour teams have officially secured their bids to the State Championship in Tulsa this weekend based on top-10 placement. The fourth and sixth-hour teams missed qualification by decimals and are listed as alternates should additional bids become available, or teams not sign up.

"For now, we have at least two teams still in contention for FTC Worlds next weekend in Tulsa, which would be absolutely unheard of for rookie teams. If anyone can do it, it’s these students," said Brandt.
