WHS Senior Madeline Glover Rows into 2nd Place on National Team

The week before a high school student's senior year begins, nerves are always high, but for Westmoore senior Madeline Glover, her nerves were exactly what helped her and her rowing team earn 2nd Place in the 2025 U19 World Championships held in Trakai, Lithuania on Aug. 10.

Glover and 19 girls from across the U.S. were selected for this team and they spent the summer training at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, CA.

Glover's Mom, Nicky Glover, said Madeline was, "...on the women’s eight that raced in the prelims on Aug. 7, where they took second to Great Britain by only .3 seconds."

"It was an exciting race. We were in 6th place for a good part of the first half," said Madeline.

On getting her start in rowing, Madeline said, "My mom signed me up for a summer camp in 2020. My other activities were canceled due to COVID-19. I ended up loving it. I was busy with school sports, so I didn’t join the competitive rowing team until 8th grade."

"I started participating in Olympic Development with USRowing the summer before my sophomore year. I was at camp for a month that summer and competed at Summer Nationals, placing 2nd," she continued.

She said the summer before her junior year, the camp moved locations to the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista and she spent a month training there.

"This summer I participated in the top USRowing training and have been gone almost all summer. I was selected, along with 19 other girls from around the country," said Madeline.

"We went through a selection process for the first two weeks and then were chosen for specific boats to continue training until we left for the U19 World Championships in Trakai, Lithuania. My ultimate goal is to race in the Olympics someday!"

Madeline continues to row with OKC Riversport, whose boathouse is located downtown in the Boathouse District along the Oklahoma River.

In January, Madeline committed to the University of Texas while still a junior. She said, "I've had my heart set on the University of Texas for some time. During the fall of my junior year, I went on a bunch of official visits to top rowing schools. I visited Texas, Stanford, Tennessee, Harvard, Virginia, and Dartmouth.

"I decided to verbally commit to UT because it feels like the perfect fit for me. Hook ‘em!"

Madeline said, "I’m grateful that MPS has the Pre-Olympic program, which I’ve been able to participate in for the past two years. It has enabled me to continue my training at the boathouse and get school credit."
